תַּרְגֵּם
תַּרְגֵּםch. sam(תרגם, תיר׳mafshilim), 1) to read (after reciting from the Pentateuch). Targ. II Esth. 3:8 קרין בספריהון ומְתַרְגְּמִין בנביאיהון they read from their books (the Pentateuch) and recite (as Haftarah, v. פָּטַר) from their prophets. 2) to interpret, translate, explain. Sabb.111b; Snh.8b, v. preced. Sabb.10b דמְתַרְגְּמִינָןוכ׳, v. הֵימַן. Ib. 28a, v. סַסְגּוֹנָא. Ib. 64a. R. Hash. 33b. Gitt.68a (ref. to שדה ושדות, Koh. 2:8) הכא תֵרְגִּימוּוכ׳ here (in Babylonia) they translate it Ḥull.80a, v. תּוֹרְבָּלָא. Keth.110a תַּרְגְּמָהּ … אליבאוכ׳ R. N., developing the opinion of R. Sh., explained it ; Sabb.52b; a. fr.
